The Why Behind VXI

Why a business exists is far more powerful than what the business does or how it does it.

If it seems obvious that profitability is always a business’s reason to exist, Simon Sinek’s viral TED talk and follow up book Start with Why challenges that concept. According to Sinek, when a business makes money, it’s a result but it’s not what inspires the people who generate that result.

Employees will work longer and harder, innovate more and cooperate more effectively with their peers when they believe in the why behind what the business does. According to Sinek, “Paying someone a lot of money and asking them to come up with great ideas ensures very little. However, pulling together a team of like-minded people and giving them a cause to pursue ensures a greater sense of teamwork and camaraderie.”

A company’s sense of why is important not only to employees, but to customers as well.  The often repeated mantra in Start with Why is this: “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”

The traditional approach to marketing and advertising has been to emphasize what a company does by describing features, benefits, price, service or quality as differentiators. But what the company does in terms of providing a great product or service only really serves to demonstrate the authenticity of the why. In the case of Apple, the company’s why of thinking differently, challenging the status quo, democratizing technology and putting powerful business tools in the hands of individuals would not be possible unless its products (the what) were high quality and easy to use. According to Sinek, what you do should be proof of the why and a demonstration of authenticity.

So what’s the why behind VXI?

In alignment with our core values of Excellence, Agility, Teamwork, Integrity and Inventiveness, offering clients the opportunity to share our “Passion for People” philosophy and work together to make a difference in people’s lives within and outside the workplace is the core of what we believe and the reason why we exist. The why behind VXI is aptly summed up in this quote from one of our valued client partners:

“Our continued success relies on VXI’s “Passion for the People” mantra, which has focused on engagement, development and retention of their people. Together with these values, their investment in their people and their innovative technology stack, VXI was able to transform our business and continue to drive results. The program started with approximately 60 new hires and has grown to over 300 in a short time due to the performance of the team.  This has built trust and allowed us to feel confident that we could expand quickly with good results. We have also partnered with VXI to address a change in our overall training approach through the use of the VXI Training Simulator. VXI is not just a company that provides person-power, they provide us with innovative solutions to help us improve our entire business.” (Feedback from a Client that Awarded VXI the Top Inbound Telemarketing Vendor Cup for Q3 2018)

In Start with Why, Sinek reminds us that, “The goal of business should not be to simply sell to anyone who wants what you have—the majority—but rather to find people who believe what you believe…They perceive greater value in what you do.”
